Examining the current POS landscape

If you are a new business, one of the first pieces of technology that organizations need to purchase in order to be successful is a reliable point of sale solution. While it would seem like that is an easy thing to acquire, you may need to think again.

A recent article from Business News Daily examined the current marketplace.

"There's no denying it: accepting credit cards can be a boon for small business," the article reads. "But before you start reaping the rewards of your new payment solution, you'll have to figure out how and where to get a credit card machine. While that might sound simple enough, your equipment options may be much more complicated than you think."

The first thing any business must determine when picking a credit card processing solution is what specific tools will hold the most benefit to their specific needs.

The article goes on to list several specific solutions that are on the market that businesses need to choose between. These include:

  • Fully integrated POS system – This software solution makes it possible to improve sales and inventory reporting by becoming a business hub.
  • Wireless credit card terminals – Wireless networking is making it easier to add terminals and sync reporting.
  • Mobile card readers – Tablets and smartphones are growing in popularity as a business tool and more organizations are using them as a POS terminal to help improve the customer experience.
  • Chip-and-PIN terminals – An improved form of security for credit cards, this practice is gaining steam and will be widespread by the end of 2015.
